Sparkling and Broken | Acrylic on Canvas | 24” x 36”

Genevieve primarily works with acrylics on canvas, while being open and experimenting with other mediums.

Along with being a painter, Genevieve is also an advocate/activist for her intersecting identities, Genevieve believes that the personal is political, and the very personal is art. She finds sustenance in painting portraits, with surreal and abstract themes. Genevieve has participated in various group exhibitions and creates commissioned paintings. She has also earned her Associate’s Degree in Arts and graduated from Northeastern Illinois University in 2021 with her Bachelor’s degree in Women’s, Gender, and Sexually Studies. She is currently getting her certificate in painting from the School of the Art Institute, Chicago.

I strive to evoke beauty and emotion, where viewers can feel and appreciate my voice through my visual work on canvas

Art as Advocacy

Genevieve’s art incorporates an attraction to bright colors along with themes of femininity, figure, and empowerment. Genevieve believes in equality of all humans and stands for the rights of marginalized groups, specifically the communities she’s apart of.

I must fight with all my strength so all the little things positive things my health allows me to do might be pointed toward helping the Revolution, the only real reason for living

Genevieve’s art is her lived experience, representing her intersecting identities as a disabled, latinx feminist. Every new self-portrait is a chance to recreate the lessons she learns from life. She hopes to evoke beauty and emotion, where viewers can feel and appreciate her voice through her visual works on canvas.

gives you
so much pain
and here you are
making gold out of it

there is nothing purer than that
