Sustaining Spirit

A Solo Exhibition by Genevieve Ramos

Curated by Matt Bodett

Welcome to *Sustaining Spirit*, a collection of works exploring survival, collective care, disability justice, and the sacredness of the soul.

Inspired by Naomi Ortiz’s book *Sustaining Spirit: Self-Care for Social Justice* and Carl Jung’s *The Earth Has a Soul*.

A portrait of a woman with dark wavy hair, holding pink flowers partially covering her face, with inspiring text written along her hairline.
Abstract painting of a human spine with flowers and a butterfly.

My work is a visual narrative of self and nature—intimate, intuitive, and rooted in love for the earth. These pieces reflect my belief that healing ourselves and the planet are deeply intertwined. As a disabled artist, I understand healing not as a solitary act, but as a collective, ongoing relationship between body, community, and environment. I hope my art ripples outward, inviting a more just, compassionate, and eco-connected future. -Genevieve R.

“I organized and had interviews with four women from my community, the questions curated from the interviews asked about their beginnings, their work, and what they would want their portraits to show. I felt compelled to highlight these women by painting their portraits. I used this research to fuel my imagination.
